Arc Flash Hazard Reduction
The TRC P1 is a packaged solution that is easily installed on existing electrical distribution equipment that has high levels of arc flash potential. Using field installed fiber optic, light-detecting ropes and spot sensors connected to an arc flash relay, the P1 can instantly detect the light from an arcing event. Once light is detected, the P1 initiates a shunt trip signal from its internal power supply to open the upstream feeder breaker serving the panel being protected by the P1. This sequence can be executed in a time frame such that the amount of arc energy can be significantly reduced compared to the time it would take for a breaker to trip on overcurrent detection.
